About Our YarnsCAVEAT-PLEASE READ: We don't always have every Forever Random Blend or every shade of every dye in every yarn style available at all times. We will contact you if we can't fill your order and let you know what is on hand. Then you can choose to order other selections or wait til your original order comes around again. If it's a handspun FRB this could take awhile...like 2 months or even more depending on where your blend choice is in the dye studio lineup. Our colors are unique and worth waiting for as you probably already know. Handspun Yarns Our Handspun Forever Random Blends are on the cutting edge of yarn design & innovation. Native and exotic colors combine to create phenomenal blends that Never repeat. We mix yearling Mohair with Fine Wool to achieve extraordinary colorways on high quality fiber. We have 100% Fine Wool blends; Mohair accent blends (33% yearling Mohair/66% Fine Wool); Obverse blends (50% Mohair /50% Fine Wool); and Glace' blends (60% Mohair/40% Fine Wool) All are available in Worsted and Fine/Sportweight. Two colorways in the Obverse blend are double-dyed. The inspiration for our Handspun Textured Yarns came from owner, Luisa Gelenter. She felt the natural fiber looked most beautiful on the back of the animal. Her desire was to recreate this in what resulted in our Handspun Textured Yarn lines. Perfect for embellishments. Commercial Millspun Yarns Custom Millspun Yarns Thanks to our partnership with the Taos Valley Wool Mill, our potential for "Dancing with Wools" has increased exponentially. We are now able to make & design our own unique Millspun yarns. Our Custom Millspun 100% Silk is available in natural wild Tussah in thirty incandescent shades of our native and exotic colors. Nothing compares to the lustrious sheen and luxurious handle of handspun silk. Our Phat Silks come in worsted & sport weight. We have developed a spinning process where the silk envelopes the wool core. It "reads" like Silk but has the handle of fine knitting wool, which gives us Silk with Memory & Wool with Luster. ¿Cómo Bouclé? It's a kind of bouclé, not a true bouclé, so we've named it ¿Cómo Bouclé?, which translates to "is it like bouclé?". It is our first 2-ply Millspun and is a fat Merino plied with a very thin 1-ply Tussah. Soft, full and luscious. Streakers! This is a break-thru, unique Custom Millspun worsted with random streaks of color. Think iced tinctures of our usually saturated plant dyed shades flowing thru the skein in completely random fashion. No repeats. For people who love our plant dyed colors but can't afford the lumps, we have created our own basic high quality Millspun Worsted yarns. Also in order to extend the random effect About Our Dyeing ProcessAll of our yarns are hand-dyed using plants native to New Mexico and exotic dyes of antiquity. Pricing is based on fiber content and complexity of our dye process. Most yarns are dyed once to obtain the desired colors, others are dyed twice, including all our greens, rich reds and deep blues, thus costing a little more for the extra effort and dye materials. You will also notice that we offer undyed yarns as well. Native Plants These are dyes found in the Southwest and include: Navajo Tea (Kota), Onion Skins, Sage, *Walnut Leaves and Hulls, *Lupine, Mullein, *Chamisa, Indian Paintbrush, and *Marigolds. (*Seasonally available: our stock sometimes runs out in late winter. Please include a second choice on any of these selections.) Exotics These are the celebrated dyes of antiquity - Cochineal, Indigo, Madder, Brazilwood, and Logwood. Each of these creates a different color depending on the mordant used or the intensity of the dyestuff. All the colors are exquisite. Special Notes A special note on Indigo: During use, Indigo-dyed yarn will leave some blue on your hands - not to worry, it washes off easily and will not stain neighboring colors. In Africa, the women will only buy cloth if the Indigo rubs off, as this proves it's the real thing. A special note on Brazilwood: Brazilwood does bleed, so wash in cold water for no longer than three minutes. But in order not to tempt fate, do not use directly next to whites! We hope you enjoy perusing our unique collection of yarns. |
