Lore Wills

Biography

Lore Wills was born in Berlin, and grew up in the city of Hanover, in North Germany. In her teens she moved to Canada with her parents. She attended the Alberta College of Art and Design, a school staffed by highly accomplished artist-teachers. Printmaking and fabric painting were followed by the exploration of other media. Weaving finally became her main medium, first in the creation of tapestries, and later in the production of hand woven clothing.

Lore has been weaving, and teaching weaving, for over 30 years. During the nineteen- eighties, she traveled the arts and craft fair circuit. This brought her a number of awards and ‘Best of Show’ ribbons. Art and craft fairs were a good way to explore the magnificent Southwest. The feeling of spaciousness and freedom unique to the West were a great attraction.

Nowadays, Lore sells her work mainly through stores. This may not be quite as exciting as traveling the fairs, but it is much less arduous. In her studio near the Manzano Mountains, surrounded by sunny hills and magnificent views, she weaves the shawls and fabrics for the hand woven clothing that you see in this store.

The clear light, mellow sun, and the contemplative lifestyle are reflected in every piece produced in her studio. May their joy and serenity touch your life.
